This is the course for the Knoxville Track Club TRAIL Whitestone 30k. This is a single loop, repeat it three times for the full 30k, or once for the relay. If you are ambitious, you can sign up for both the 30k and a relay team. Theoretically you could sign up for three relay teams on different legs and run four races that day!
The only aid station is around mile 3, at the road in the first image here. You will pass it, do a short loop, and then pass it again. There has not been an aid station at the beginning of the course in the past.
At almost halfway through the loop there is a loop that sometimes switches directions from year to year. It will be the same loop, but may be either clockwise or counter-clockwise.
Even though this is on private property I’ve run this course on non-race days and never had a problem. Your results may vary, etc.
Either load up this GPX or have a map or your phone or something, the woods are easy to take wrong turns in.
Most people park close to the starting line. If you park closer to the barn you will run by your vehicle a total of 6 times, making it easy to either drop clothes, or reload on your own hydration / nutrition. To park there, skip the first entrance (where you typically see people waving you in) and go to the second or third, just past the first. All three are on the right.
There is typically whiskey and craft beers at the 5k / 15k / 25k mark.
The starting line is right outside the chapel, between the building and the hedge.
Note: There is a single bathroom per gender available on race day. Get there early if you want to use it.
The elevation change is pretty high, a little under 1000′ per loop. It is heavy on the beginning, and mostly downhill after mile 4.
Be careful on that downhill. While it is trail there is a small ravine dug into the middle of the trail for a good stretch. You will end up running on either side of it, and hopping across from one side to the other several times.
This race is part of the 9 or 12 trail race series put on by the Knoxville Track Club.
